Writing your page
title
Your page title tells your site visitors (and
search engines) what your page is about. A
search engine uses your page title to
determine if your page best satisfies the
user’s inquiry or search.
This is important for search engine
optimization (SEO). Defined SEO is the process
of maximizing the number of visitors to your
website by ensuring the site appears high on
the list of results returned by a search
engine.
Suggested best practices for writing
page
titles:
- Use unique titles (avoid duplicates
within your site).
- Make your title compelling, short and
concise.
- Include a keyword that well defines
the subject of your
page.
- Include branding.
Formulating your
filename
(page
url)
Best practices:
- Keep your url structure simple and
descriptive.
- Google recommends using dashes “-” and
not underscores “_”.
- Don’t use spaces or special characters
(such as &) to separate
words.
- If you need an easy-to-remember url for advertising purposes, request a redirect from web strategy and development.
